About Us

PRICE IS RICE is a social promotion association that supports the artisans of rural areas of Bangladesh in the growth and improvement of living conditions through their work, realizing social projects for women and sustainable development in their territory.
For this cause, we have created with them a direct and constant interchange relationship that has allowed us to know the value of the artistic and craft heritage Bangladeshi, and wanting to protect the traditions at risk of being lost, absorbed by the industrial rhythms and overcrowded productions.
The collaboration with the craft led to the design and manufacture of products made with local materials, processed according to traditional techniques applied, however, to aesthetically discounted issues, other than those usually sold, highlighting the extraordinary craftsmanship of these women and giving them the opportunity to re-use skills and techniques otherwise abandoned.

The association’s name calls attention to a focal point of our mission: to allow the consumer to know what the real condition of inequity in living and working conditions of these craft and how much more needs to be done to achieve an effective level of social sustainability, despite the intervention of the various organizations involved in the fair trade market. For this reason, the products made by the women who work with us are accompanied by a card on which the price in € is translated into “Currency-rice”, nutricional element at the base of power in much of the world and an assessment tool to determine the poverty line.
The living wage is a basic human right: this is why we want the Bangladeshi women working with PRICE IS RICE can do so on equal terms, freedom, security and human dignity (basic principles of “decent work” – ILO “International Labour Organization” ), and that the distribution of their production takes place according to the same criteria.
